If you’ve lodged an EOI for the Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) visa, you may notice that some occupations receive invitations much faster than others. One reason is how occupations are prioritised in SkillSelect.

Here’s a simple breakdown:

  • Tier 1 – Critical Skills (≈4.0%)
    Occupations in strong demand that receive the highest share of invitations.
  • Tier 2 – High Demand Roles (≈2.0%)
    Still important to the labour market and generally receive regular invitations.
  • Tier 3 – General Skilled Occupations (≈1.0%)
    A wide range of professions where competition is stronger.
  • Tier 4 – Oversupplied Occupations
